FAQs

Happy Tails Pet Care

  • Will my dog be in a kennel all day?

All of our kennels feature a doggy door that leads to a private outdoor run, allowing your dog to move freely between the indoor and outdoor areas at their convenience. Dogs are safely secured inside at bedtime (10:00 PM) and let out first thing in the morning (5:30 AM). Other than during those hours, they are free to come and go as they please.
  • What if my dog gets sick or injured?

If your dog gets ill or injured during their stay with us, we will always contact your vet as our first port of call. We have a great relationship with all our local vets, so if necessary, we will transport your dog to your vet or, if that is not feasible, to one of our trusted veterinary partners. We will contact you straight away and keep you updated every step of the way. We will not make any medical decisions on your behalf unless it is a dire emergency or we are unable to reach you.
  • How can I prepare my dog?

Consider scheduling a trial stay. Arrange for your dog to board for one night or a brief weekend several weeks prior to your main trip to allow them to acclimate to the new surroundings.
  • Should I bring their own food?

We do provide Purina Dog Chow and Pedigree canned food, but you are welcome to provide your own food if you would prefer to keep your dog on their regular diet.
  • Can I bring beds and toys?

You’re more than welcome to bring toys and bedding, although we do provide bedding, blankets, etc. Please note that we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to personal items. Please do not bring bowls.
  • Can you administer medication?

We are happy to administer any required medications free of charge. However, medications that must be given outside of regular hours (for example, insulin at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.) will incur a $10 daily charge. Calming medications for thunder, fireworks, etc. will be administered as needed. Please note that we do not supply prescription medications. If non-prescription calming medication is required and not provided, we will administer our preferred option at a cost of $10 per dose.
  • How often should my dog be groomed?

We suggest grooming every 6 to 8 weeks for most breeds. However, we assess each dog on a case-by-case basis and will provide personalized recommendations after your first visit.
  • When should a puppy have its first groom?

We suggest introducing your puppy to bathing at around 12 weeks old. We can begin working with your puppy from 16 weeks of age; however, for the first couple of visits, we generally prefer not to carry out a full groom. Instead, we usually start with a couple of “tidy” sessions, where we trim the face, feet, and sanitary area only. This provides a much gentler, less stressful experience and helps your puppy settle in and become comfortable with the grooming process.
  • How much do your services cost?

Our pricing is assessed on a case-by-case basis, so please call us for an estimate. We always aim to keep our prices as competitive as possible!
